What changes from town to town
Youngstown, Warren, Niles and Campbell have many early-1900s homes on sandstone, brick or hollow block foundations. Boardman, Austintown, Howland and Canfield have mid-century block basements that bow under clay soil pressure. Columbiana County towns such as Salem, Lisbon and East Liverpool add hillside drainage and old stone foundations. Everywhere, the March–April thaw is peak basement-water season.
Licensing and permits
Ohio doesn't license waterproofing contractors statewide, so insurance, local references and written, transferable warranties matter. Excavation, structural wall repair and some drainage tie-ins can require city or township permits.
